Another ailing prison inmate dies at DMCH

Nur Alam Monir, 45, a convict who fell ill at Keraniganj Central Jail in Dhaka, has died while under treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

On the instructions of the jail authorities, prison guards admitted Nur Alam Monir in an ailing condition to Ward No. 602 of the Medicine Department of DMCH late on Monday night. He died there while under treatment around 5pm on Tuesday.

Inspector Md. Habibur Rahman, in-charge of the DMCH hospital police outpost, confirmed the matter. He said the body has been kept at the DMCH morgue for autopsy.

It could not be immediately known in which case Nur Alam Monir was imprisoned.

Earlier, convict Abdul Barek, 70, died on September 12 after falling ill at Keraniganj Central Jail, under-trial prisoner Abdul Mabud, 58, on September 13, and convicts Md. Rafiqul Islam, 54, and Abdur Rahim, 60, on September 14.
