Another Bangladeshi Peacekeeper injured in drone attack in Sudan
A Bangladeshi peacekeeper has been wounded in a drone attack by separatist forces in Sudan, raising the total number of injured Bangladesh Army personnel serving in the United Nations (UN) mission to nine.
According to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), eight peacekeepers were initially injured when a UN mission camp in Sudan’s Abyei area came under a drone strike. Later, another soldier was confirmed injured, bringing the total to nine.
The injured personnel are receiving treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. One has already been discharged, while the remaining soldiers are reported to be out of danger, the ISPR said.
Meanwhile, the bodies of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers who were killed in a December 13 drone attack on the Kadugli logistics base will be flown to Dhaka on December 20. State honours will be accorded during their funeral rites, the ISPR added.
The Bangladesh Army continues to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety and welfare of its peacekeepers deployed in Sudan.
