Another dies from Ctg gas explosion injuries, death toll rises to 2
Shaown, 16, a teenager injured in the gas line leak explosion in Halishahar, Chattogram, has died.
The teenager died around 7 am on Tuesday, February 24, while undergoing treatment at the High Dependency Unit of the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.
Dr Shaown Bin Rahman, resident physician and assistant professor at the institute, said nine burn patients were brought from Chattogram last night. Shaown, who suffered 50 per cent burns, died this morning. Earlier yesterday, emergency department doctors declared Nurjahan Akhter Rani dead. She suffered 100 per cent burns. Two deaths have occurred so far in this incident.
He further informed that Sakhawat and Pakhi Akhter have suffered 100 per cent burns. Shipon has suffered 80 per cent, Samir 45 per cent, Ayesha 45 per cent, Umme Ayman Snigdha 38 per cent and Anas 30 per cent burns. All remain in critical condition due to the extent of their burns.
The explosion occurred around 5 am on Monday, February 23, on the third floor of 'Halima Manzil' in H Block of Halishahar area. They were brought to the emergency department of the National Burn Institute in phases from 5:30 pm onwards.
