Ansar-VDP deployed at Chapainawabganj border to prevent push-in
Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party personnel have been deployed along the Chapainawabganj border to prevent push-in attempts by the Indian Border Security Force and strengthen border security. They are working jointly with the Border Guard Bangladesh.
Personnel have been deployed on a temporary basis in sensitive border areas of the district since Friday, June 5.
Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer of Ansar and VDP, Md Ashikuzzaman, said local residents have the best knowledge of the border's geography and illegal passages. Utilising this strategy, special teams have been formed under the directive of the Rajshahi Range Ansar-VDP Director and the supervision of the Chapainawabganj District Commandant.
Initially, 33 skilled Ansar and VDP personnel with good knowledge of local areas have been assigned to border outposts alongside BGB.
They are serving alongside BGB at the Chanshikari, Chamunga, Bholahat, Gilabari, Char Dharampur, Suranpur, Poladanga and Kharagpur BOPs in Bholahat upazila, and at the Bangabari BOP in Gomastapur upazila.
A different strategy has been adopted for border union areas in Shibganj upazila. Local union Ansar leaders and commanders have already met with the nearby BGB camp commander and exchanged emergency contact numbers. Ansar-VDP members will join resistance efforts immediately upon any suspicious movement or BGB call.
Ashikuzzaman said heightened tension has been prevailing at the border for several days due to the risk of push-in attempts from the neighbouring country. The deployed Ansar-VDP members are performing duties day and night jointly with BGB to tackle the situation.
