Noting that anti-Bangladesh propaganda on social media is tarnishing the image of the country, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said that Bangladesh is a progressive and liberal Muslim country. Any propaganda against the country will be strictly suppressed.

He said this during a courtesy call on Palestinian Ambassador to Bangladesh Yousef S. Y. Ramadan, who is posted in his office at the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Secretariat on Thursday (July 2).

The Home Minister said that those involved in cybercrime and propaganda will be identified quickly through a fair investigation. Action will be taken against them according to the law and exemplary trial will be ensured.

He also said that Bangladesh has historically been providing unwavering support to the Palestinian struggle for independence and the establishment of a sovereign state. Martyr President Ziaur Rahman played an important role in shaping public opinion and garnering diplomatic support for Palestine in the international arena. Bangladesh's principled and moral support for Palestine will continue in the future.

In the meeting, the Palestinian Ambassador said that a large number of Palestinian students are studying in various government and private educational institutions in Bangladesh. He sought special cooperation in providing on-arrival visas to facilitate their arrival and educational life in Bangladesh.

The Home Minister directed the concerned officials to provide necessary cooperation in this regard. In addition, he requested to send a letter to the Home Ministry through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for formal consideration of the matter.

The Ambassador further proposed that if any Palestinian citizen or student applies for a Bangladeshi visa at the Bangladesh Embassies located in various countries in the Middle East, a copy of that application can be sent to the Palestinian Embassy in Dhaka for verification purposes.

In response, the Home Minister said, as a Muslim brotherly country, we sincerely love and trust Palestine. Bangladesh is ready to provide all kinds of cooperation for the welfare of the Palestinian people.

The meeting was attended by Begum Minara Nazmin, Deputy Secretary of the Political-1 Branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Fuad Hasan Parag, Director (in-charge) of West Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Nur H. O. Alaidi, First Secretary of the Palestinian Embassy in Dhaka.
