Anti-liberation forces trying to belittle Liberation War history: Rizvi

Anti-liberation forces are trying to belittle the history of the Liberation War, said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Prime Minister's Adviser Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed.

He made the remark at a rally of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal in front of BNP's central office in Naya Paltan on Tuesday, August 11.

Referring to an exhibition at Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer's residence, Rizvi said there was no picture of the greatest Liberation War leader there, while the history of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's March 7 speech was also highlighted. He said attempts are being made to assess what is bigger and what is smaller through conspiracy, which will not benefit anyone. The people of this country know how to protect independence.

Rizvi said a major party had held onto power through rigged elections since 2008 and is now conspiring against the country while clinging to a neighbouring country.

Addressing Jamaat-e-Islami, he said the party has worked against the people by opposing the Liberation War. They have no history of bravery, only a history of collaboration. In 1971, they aligned with the Pakistanis and later joined Ershad, causing harm to the country.

Accusing Chhatra Shibir of starting riots in various educational institutions, Rizvi said they are trying to belittle the history of 1971 in a calculated manner.

Referring to the student wing of Jamaat drawing a scale at Rajshahi University, he said this was an attempt to undermine 1971. These activities are deliberate, he said.

Rizvi said, "It was because the spirit of 1971 was in our hearts that our children drove out fascists like Sheikh Hasina in 2024."

Earlier, leaders of the Muktijoddha Dal held a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity's Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium. Later, they took out a protest march from the Reporters' Unity to the BNP central office in Naya Paltan.
