Appellate Division rejects Manzurul's plea to contest in Cumilla-4 seat
The Appellate Division has rejected the leave-to-appeal petition filed by BNP-nominated Cumilla-4 candidate Manzurul Ahsan Munshi, effectively barring him from participating in the 13th national parliamentary election.
The bench, led by the Chief Justice, delivered the ruling on Sunday (February 1).
Munshi was represented by Advocates Ahsanul Karim and Saifullah Al Mamun, while Advocates Mohammad Hossain Lipu and Zahidul Islam Musa appeared for the opposing side.
Munshi’s nomination had earlier been canceled by the Election Commission on January 17 over allegations of defaulted loans. He challenged the decision in the High Court, which dismissed his petition on January 21, and subsequently filed an appeal with the Appellate Division, which has now been rejected.
The nomination cancellation was initially requested by NCP candidate Hasnat Abdullah.
