Armed Forces not property of any group: PM
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that the armed forces of Bangladesh are not the property of any individual, party or group; rather, protecting the independence and sovereignty of the state is their only sacred duty.
He said this at a program organized at the Darbar Hall of a cantonment in the capital on Sunday morning (April 12).
The Prime Minister said that an attempt was made to weaken the army through the Peelkhana massacre. Along with this, attempts were also made to make the army controversial through various activities. The armed forces are an institution of the state - it is not the personal property of any party or anyone.
Tarique Rahman said that the army has performed important duties during the period after August 5, 2024 and throughout the period of the interim government. They also performed their duties with dedication and professionalism in the 13th National Parliament elections.
Recalling the contribution of martyred President Ziaur Rahman in modernizing the army, he said that it was through his hands that a strong foundation of patriotism was built in the army.
The Prime Minister said that Bangladesh can never be defeated if the armed forces are united.
He also said that the BNP government played an important role in raising the Bangladesh Army to a high status in the international arena through its participation in UN peacekeeping missions.
The Prime Minister said that the government is working to bring reforms not only in the armed forces but also in every sector of the country and ensure the overall development of the people.
He also mentioned that the government is determined to implement every point of the BNP's 'July Charter' with the aim of rebuilding the state.
