Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman left Dhaka for Japan on Wednesday (September 16) on a four-day official visit, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). During the visit, General Waker-Uz-Zaman, who also serves as president of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA), will attend the opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. He is also scheduled to attend various sporting events during the Games and hold bilateral meetings with senior officials of the Asian Games and different national Olympic associations. The army chief is expected to return to Bangladesh after completing the four-day visit.

বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনী প্রধান ও বাংলাদেশ অলিম্পিক অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সভাপতি জেনারেল ওয়াকার-উজ-জামান চার দিনের সরকারি সফরে জাপান গেছেন। বুধবার (১৬ সেপ্টেম্বর) জাপানের উদ্দেশে বাংলাদেশ ত্যাগ করেন তিনি। আন্তঃবাহিনী জনসংযোগ পরিদপ্তর (আইএসপিআর) এক বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে এ তথ্য জানিয়েছে। সফরকালে জেনারেল ওয়াকার-উজ-জামান জাপানের আইচি-নাগোয়া শহরে অনুষ্ঠিতব্য ২০তম এশিয়ান গেমসের উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে বাংলাদেশ অলিম্পিক অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সভাপতি হিসেবে অংশ নেবেন। এ ছাড়া তিনি এশিয়ান গেমসের বিভিন্ন ক্রীড়া ইভেন্টে উপস্থিত থাকবেন। সফরে এশিয়ান গেমস ও বিভিন্ন অলিম্পিক অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের ঊর্ধ্বতন কর্মকর্তাদের সঙ্গে তার দ্বিপক্ষীয় বৈঠকে অংশ নেওয়ার কথা রয়েছে। চার দিনের এই সফর শেষে সেনাপ্রধানের দেশে ফেরার কথা রয়েছে।
