Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman returned to Dhaka on Sunday night (September 20) after completing a four-day visit to Japan, where he attended the opening ceremony of the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. During the visit, the army chief held a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, president of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), and took part in discussions with presidents of Olympic associations from several countries. The high-level engagements focused on strengthening international cooperation in sports and are expected to contribute to the development of Bangladesh’s sports sector and further expand the country’s engagement in the global sporting arena.

চার দিনের সরকারি জাপান সফর শেষে দেশে ফিরেছেন বাংলাদেশ সেনাবাহিনী প্রধান ও বাংলাদেশ অলিম্পিক অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সভাপতি জেনারেল ওয়াকার-উজ-জামান। রবিবার (২০ সেপ্টেম্বর) রাতে তিনি ঢাকায় পৌঁছান। সফরকালে জাপানের আইচি-নাগোয়ায় অনুষ্ঠিত ২০তম এশিয়ান গেমসের উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানে অংশ নেন সেনাপ্রধান। এ সময় তিনি এশিয়ান অলিম্পিক কাউন্সিলের (ওসিএ) সভাপতি শেখ জোয়ান বিন হামাদ আল থানির সঙ্গে দ্বিপক্ষীয় বৈঠক করেন এবং বিভিন্ন দেশের অলিম্পিক অ্যাসোসিয়েশনের সভাপতিদের সঙ্গে আলোচনায় মিলিত হন। এসব উচ্চপর্যায়ের বৈঠকে আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রীড়া সহযোগিতা জোরদারের বিষয়ে গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে, যা বাংলাদেশের ক্রীড়া খাতের উন্নয়ন এবং বৈশ্বিক ক্রীড়াঙ্গনে দেশের সম্পৃক্ততা আরও সম্প্রসারণে ভূমিকা রাখবে বলে আশা করা হচ্ছে।
