Army deployment ordered at major oil depots

Instructions have been issued to deploy the army to ensure security at major oil depots amid the situation arising from fuel oil marketing in the country.

The information was conveyed in a message from the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday, March 9.

The ministry stated that in the recent situation, problems have arisen in supplying fuel oil from various depots according to the sudden increased demand from dealers in some cases. Sources from fuel oil marketing companies have indicated a risk of untoward situations developing at several important depots.

The installations identified as vulnerable include the main facility at Patenga in Chittagong metropolitan area, Daulatpur in Khulna district, Baghabari in Sirajganj district, Godnail and Fatulla in Narayanganj district, Parbatipur in Dinajpur district, and Barisal depot.

Among these, the depots at Patenga (Chittagong), Daulatpur, Baghabari, Godnail, Fatulla and Parbatipur are considered key installations. Therefore, ensuring the security of these installations is deemed essential.

The ministry's message stated that a request has been made to take necessary measures for urgent deployment of the army to ensure overall security of the mentioned installations.

Sources concerned said strengthening security at the depots will help maintain normal fuel oil supply and marketing activities.
