Arnob Das sent to jail after arrest at Dhanmondi 32
A Dhaka court has ordered Arnob Das, 37, to be sent to jail after he was arrested while attempting to pay tribute to a portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 on Saturday.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police prosecution department confirmed the development on Sunday (August 16).
According to police, Das was arrested at Dhanmondi 32 on August 15 while he was there to place flowers in tribute.
He was later produced before a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate. Following a petition by the investigation officer, Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam ordered that Das be sent to jail.
Police have identified Das as an active member of the Awami League’s banned youth wing, Jubo League. However, authorities have not immediately disclosed the specific case under which he was arrested or the precise allegations against him.
Police said Das has since been sent to jail and that the investigation into the case is ongoing. Further details of the allegations are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
Das, who is from Tangail, was initially detained by police at Dhanmondi 32 on Saturday morning.
Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Imdadul Islam Tayeb had earlier confirmed his detention, saying preliminary questioning indicated his involvement with Jubo League.
