Metro passengers have taken around 200,000 single-journey tickets with them instead of returning them after their rides, creating a shortage at stations.

Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has urged the public to return these tickets to avoid further disruption.

During a press conference on Monday, at the Uttara Depot, DMTCL Managing Director (MD) Mohammad Abdur Rouf said that out of 268,441 single-journey tickets issued, nearly 200,000 were not returned by passengers at the designated machines upon exiting the stations.

Additionally, 6,881 cards became unusable due to damage, and 1,500 cards were lost in other ways.

The DMTCL MD urged passengers to return these cards, emphasizing that taking single-journey tickets outside the metro stations is a punishable offense.

He further said that these cards cannot be used for any other purpose outside the stations, and returning them will help the state avoid financial losses.

Abdur Rouf emphasized that taking these tickets out of the metro system is a punishable offense.

He urged passengers to return the cards, as they cannot be used elsewhere, and returning them will help avoid financial loss for the state.

Meanwhile, the shortage of tickets has caused inconvenience for passengers.

Some vending machines remain out of service due to a lack of tickets, which increases the burden on other machines.

When tickets run out, passengers are forced to wait for more tickets to be made available.
