Interim government's Home Affairs Advisor Lt. General (Retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that 'Awami League criminals' should be brought under the law even if there is no case against them.

He warned that action will be taken against police officers if they do not brought the Awami League members under the law.

The Home Affairs Adviser gave such instructions in response to the demands of a group of students after a programme at the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) building in Narayanganj on Wednesday (December 17) afternoon.

Earlier, the BKMEA presented a total of six vehicles, three each to the district police and industrial police at 2:30pm. The Home Affairs Adviser was present at the event.

On his way back, student leaders blocked his path. They made seven demands, including the recovery of weapons looted during July uprising, the arrest of Awami League and Osman family members and their associates, increased security at the border, the arrest of the main accused in the attack on Osman Hadi, and keeping the police station and courts free from political influence.

Leaders of organizations such as Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, NGB and Warriors of July were present at the time.

The Home Affairs Adviser described their demands as 'reasonable' and said that some steps have already been taken to implement these demands.

At that time, the student leaders claimed that the police were not arresting 'Awami League criminals', saying 'there is no case against them.' In view of this demand, the Home Affairs Adviser called District Police Superintendent Mizanur Rahman Munshi, who was present at the scene, and ordered: "It is not a matter of seeing whether there is a case against the Awami League criminals or not. We will bring them under the law immediately. And if you cannot make it, action will be taken against you too."
