Asaduzzaman gets Law Ministry

Former Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman has been given the charges of the Law Ministry. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), which won a single majority, has formed the government five days after the 13th National Parliament elections.

The oath-taking of the new cabinet members was held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building at 4 pm on Tuesday (February 17). According to the constitution, the cabinet members were administered the oath by the President.

Md. Asaduzzaman won this election by securing 171,598 votes.

His nearest rival, the candidate with the scale symbol Abu Saleh Md. Matiar Rahman, got 55,577 votes.

Md. Asaduzzaman was born in January of 1971 in Baripara village of Shailkupa upazila of Jhenaidah district. His father Sheikh Md. Israel Hossain and mother Begum Rokeya. He started his education in Jhenaidah. He passed SSC in 1987 and HSC in 1989. Later, he obtained LLB (Honours) and LLM degrees from the Law Department of Dhaka University.

During his student life, he was associated with the politics of Jasad Chhatra League and performed various responsibilities of the organization. In 1995, he was enrolled as a lawyer in the Bangladesh Bar Council and in 1996, he joined the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.

Later, he was also enrolled as a lawyer in the Appellate Division. He has been involved in the legal profession in the Supreme Court for a long time and has participated in various important cases.

In politics, he served as the Human Rights Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of BNP and an adviser to party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
