Asaduzzaman Noor gets bail in 2 murder cases, but cannot be released yet
The High Court has granted bail to former Awami League government's cultural affairs minister and actor Asaduzzaman Noor in two murder cases centered on the July Movement. However, it is reported that he is not getting release right now as he has multiple other cases against him.
A bench of Justices KM Zahid Sarwar and Sheikh Abu Taher gave the order on Sunday (May 10).
Lawyer ZI Khan Panna heard on behalf of Noor in the court. Deputy Attorney General Shayla Sharmin and Assistant Attorney General Md. Alamin were present for the state.
Lawyer ZI Khan Panna said, we have heard three times in these two cases. A rule was given earlier. Today the rule has been made absolute.
However, he said that Noor's release is not possible for now as he has been arrested and charged in other cases.
According to information, Asaduzzaman Noor is named along with 114 others, including the former prime minister, in a case filed in the murder of a teenager named Siam Sardar, 17, in Mirpur, Dhaka, on July 18, 2024.
In another case, charges have been brought against the murder of BNP leader Golam Rabbani of Nilphamari in 2014. This case was filed in court in 2024 by his wife.
In addition, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed another case against him on charges of illegal acquisition of wealth and money laundering.
The police arrested him from Bailey Road in the capital on September 15, 2024. After that, several cases were filed against him in Nilphamari as well.
Born in Nilphamari in 1946, Asaduzzaman Noor was active in the cultural arena and politics for a long time. He served as the Minister of Cultural Affairs in 2014 and was elected as a member of parliament several times.
