Ashura teaches peace, justice and harmony: Prime Minister
In a message given on the occasion of holy Ashura, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said that the core teachings of Islam are based on peace, justice, compassion and human welfare. There is no place for division, violence, hatred or social animosity in Islam.
He said these things in a message given on the occasion of holy Ashura on Thursday (June 25).
The Prime Minister said that holy Ashura is a day of deep significance for the Muslim Ummah. It is not only a day of mourning and remembrance, but also carries a unique lesson of truth, justice, patience, sacrifice and moral fortitude.
He said that the incident of Karbala is an unforgettable chapter in human history, which has inspired people throughout the ages to take a strong stand for truth and against injustice. The lesson that Karbala has given us to be steadfast in human dignity, justice and ideals is still a source of inspiration for the entire mankind.
Tarique Rahman said that almost fourteen hundred years ago, in the desert of Karbala, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH), did not bow down to oppression, injustice and tyranny and accepted the great dignity of martyrdom. His sacrifice has made Karbala an eternal symbol of the struggle for truth and justice.
Inspired by the great teachings of Ashura, the Prime Minister called for further strengthening harmony, mutual respect, tolerance and brotherhood in the society.
He said that everyone should be more dedicated to building a just, peaceful and welfare-oriented society.
In his message, the Prime Minister paid deep tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). At the same time, he also paid humble tribute to the sacred memory of his family members and companions who were martyred in the tragic incident of Karbala.
He expressed deep condolences to the Muslim Ummah of the world, including Bangladesh, on this mournful day and called for imbibing the teachings of the holy Ashura in individual, social and national life.
