Asif Mahmud announces independent candidacy for Dhaka-10
Former Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiya has announced he will contest the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-10.
He made the announcement through a Facebook post, accompanied by a video message on Friday morning (December 12).
In the video, Asif emphasized the historic opportunity to shape Bangladesh’s future after 17 years. He called for building a welfare-oriented state free from divisive politics and stressed the need for social, political, and geopolitical reforms.
Acknowledging the sacrifices of national figures including Matiur Rahman, Taramon Bibi, and Abrar Fahad, he said, “I want to continue the struggle for reconstruction and reform inspired by their dedication.”
Asif specified that he will contest Dhaka-10, covering areas such as Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Hazaribagh, New Market, and parts of Kamrangirchar. He highlighted that he has no backing from major political parties, no extensive volunteer network, and limited financial resources, relying solely on public support.
He also declared his candidacy in the upcoming referendum, urging citizens to vote “yes” to realize the opportunity for national reform.
