Former adviser to the interim government and National Citizen Party (NCP) spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan has disclosed his and his family's bank accounts. Amid allegations of corruption during his time as adviser, he presented the bank account details at a press conference at the NCP central office in Banglamotor, capital, on Wednesday evening, March 4.

Presenting his family's bank accounts, Asif Mahmud informed that his father has a total of Tk 547,711 across five accounts, but also has a service loan of Tk 10 lakh. Monthly salaries are deducted for the service loan, with the outstanding loan amount currently Tk 639,746. After deducting the loan from the money in his father's accounts, he still has a liability of Tk 82,045. His mother's account holds Tk 21,154, and his wife's account has only Tk 613.

Disclosing his own accounts, he informed that his savings account with Sonali Bank currently holds Tk 9,930. His 16 months' salary and allowances as an adviser were deposited into his salary account. Various government allowances and TA/DA were also credited to this salary account. Before joining the government, there was Tk 50,000 in the salary account. A total of Tk 85,81,000 was deposited, and Tk 76,03,000 was withdrawn. The account currently has a balance of Tk 9,78,626.

The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) had summoned Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan's personal bank account information. A letter was sent to 56 scheduled banks and other non-banking financial institutions of the country on Monday, March 2.

Regarding the allegations, Asif Mahmud said, "Those who were disgruntled in the past and those from the Awami League still in the country are raising these allegations. These matters did not arise when I left my post, but rumours started after my city corporation election." He further stated, "The news surrounding the summoning of bank accounts is the ulterior motive of a particular group. That is why I have disclosed my bank accounts preemptively."
