Former Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuiyan has officially joined the National Citizen Party (NCP) and will serve as the party’s spokesperson as head of its election management committee. He will not participate in the upcoming parliamentary election.

The announcement was made on Monday (December 29) at a press conference held at the NCP office in the capital's Rupayan Tower, by the party’s convener Nahid Islam.

At the event, Asif Mahmud spoke to the media about the country’s current political situation, ongoing reform initiatives, and the party’s future plans.

Earlier, he had collected nomination papers to contest from Dhaka-10, and his supporters also collected papers for Cumilla-3.

Asif Mahmud served as a student representative adviser in the interim government formed under Dr. Muhammad Yunus on August 8, 2024, following the July mass uprising that led to the fall of the Awami League government. He later held advisory roles in the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

He, along with Mahfuj Alam, resigned from their advisory posts on December 10 ahead of the election, with Asif now taking up leadership and spokesperson responsibilities within NCP instead of contesting the polls.
