Asif Mahmud's issue not politically motivated: ACC secretary

Md Saidur Rahman Khan, secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), has said the ACC has not taken any action against Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, former adviser to the interim government and spokesperson of the National Citizen Party (NCP), with any political motivation. He told reporters this after inspecting the Supreme Court's record building construction project on Wednesday.

Saidur Rahman Khan said the ACC started the inquiry against Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan only after finding preliminary evidence, adding that the "slip of tongue" matter was a personal mistake by the ACC's public relations officer.

He said a team led by ACC assistant director Ismail Hossain conducted a raid at the site of the Supreme Court's record building construction project and at the Public Works Department, where preliminary evidence of embezzlement of around Tk 6.32 crore in the project was found.

Notably, NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan claimed at a press conference today that the ACC is trying to put the blame on him over a money transaction linked to a promotion event that took place during the BNP government's tenure. He also alleged that the ACC's raid was motivated.
