Assistant Attorney General Tarikul resigns to contest election
Md. Tariqul Islam has resigned from the post of Assistant Attorney General in order to run for the upcoming Supreme Court Bar Association elections.
He submitted his formal resignation to the Attorney General on Tuesday morning (May 5). In his resignation letter, he mentioned personal reasons and election preparations.
Md. Tariqul Islam said that he has decided to contest as a candidate for the post of 'Co-Secretary' in the upcoming Supreme Court Bar Association elections for the 2026-27 session. He decided to step down from this government legal post to maintain the election rules and an environment of fair competition.
In his resignation letter, he mentioned, 'I have been serving as Assistant Attorney General. I have voluntarily resigned from this post as I have decided to run for the post of Co-Secretary in the upcoming Supreme Court Bar Association elections.'
In his application, he requested the Attorney General to accept his resignation letter quickly through due process.
According to the announced schedule, the Supreme Court Bar Association elections are scheduled to be held on May 13 and 14. Extensive election activities have already started in the Supreme Court premises in view of this election.
