BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the attack on Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8 contituencey, is actually an attack on Bangladesh and the nations' democratic process.

He made the remark while speaking to journalists after meeting with the Chief Adviser at the State Guesthouse, 'Jamuna', today (December 13).

Describing the incident as far from isolated, Salahuddin said, "The attack as professional in nature and an assault on the democratic process," adding, "Such attacks will not succeed in advancing fallen fascism."

He emphasized that the BNP will maintain its anti-fascist national unity and will not allow political disputes to undermine it.

Salahuddin further stated that the democratic transition of the country will be protected by promoting the spirit of the July 2024 popular uprising.

Osman Hadi was shot on Friday in the capital's Bijoynagar Box Culvert area. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital, where he remains under treatment.

Dr. Syedur Rahman, special assistant professor at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, reported that the bullet entered above Hadi’s left ear and exited through the right side, causing damage to critical areas of the brain. Medically, it is classified as a “massive brain injury.” The next 72 hours are considered extremely critical, and Hadi is currently on a ventilator.

Doctors have not yet given any assurance of recovery.
