Attackers in Osman Hadi shooting identified: DMP

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has identified the attackers involved in the shooting of Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha an independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, during an election campaign in the capital’s Bijoynagar area.

DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali confirmed the development on Friday night (December 12), saying police are “very close to detecting” the suspects and that arrests could be made at any moment.

Earlier, the DMP strongly condemned the attack, describing it as heinous and cowardly. In a statement, police said they visited the scene immediately after the incident and have been collecting and analyzing CCTV footage from surrounding areas to track down those responsible.

Alongside local police, the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch has been conducting raids at multiple locations in search of the suspects.

The DMP has urged city residents to remain calm and to share any information related to the incident with law enforcement.

The shooting occurred on Friday afternoon near the Bijoynagar Box Culvert, where assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on Hadi before fleeing the scene. He was critically injured and initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, before being shifted to Evercare Hospital for advanced treatment.
