Attacks on Prothom Alo and Daily Star offices deeply saddened chief adviser

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus spoke to the editors of the two newspapers over the phone regarding the barbaric attacks on the offices of Daily Prothom Alo and The Daily Star on Thursday night.

Expressing deep condolences to Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman and Daily Star Editor Mahfuz Anam, the Chief Adviser said: "This unwanted and despicable attack on your organization and journalists has deeply pained me. The government is by your side in this difficult time."

The Chief Adviser said that this attack on the country's two leading media organizations is tantamount to an attack on independent media. This incident has created a huge obstacle in the path of democratic progress and independent journalism in the country.

During the phone conversation, the Chief Adviser assured the editors and media of full security and other necessary cooperation.

The Chief Adviser also said that he will meet with these editors very soon.
