Attempts being made to divide country in religion’s name: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that deliberate efforts are underway to create major divisions in Bangladesh by exploiting religion.

Speaking at the launch of the party’s “Desh Gorar Porikalpona” campaign in Dhaka on Sunday (December 7), he said certain groups are using religion as a tool to polarize society.

Fakhrul stressed that while Bangladeshis are religious and the BNP respects religious values, the party rejects any attempt to divide the state or society in the name of faith. “People of all religions must live together—this was the spirit of 1971,” he said.

He also urged BNP’s student wing to be more proactive in spreading the party’s 31-point reform agenda, noting weak outreach at the grassroots and limited presence on campuses.

According to him, this organisational weakness has affected the party’s recent electoral performance.
