BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that no attempt to “mislead or distort” the history and spirit of the 1971 Liberation War will ever succeed.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday (April 26) after paying tribute at the graves of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, Rizvi said the Liberation War is rooted in the blood and sacrifice of the nation, including 3 million martyrs and 2,00,000 women, and cannot be erased or reinterpreted through political efforts.

He said the newly formed 151-member central committee of the Nationalist Liberation War Generation has begun its activities with the aim of spreading the history, ideals and spirit of independence among younger generations.

Rizvi expressed hope that under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, the country would overcome its ongoing political and economic challenges. He also said the organization would expand its activities across districts and upazilas to strengthen awareness of the Liberation War.

He further commented on energy and public health issues, urging greater investment in renewable energy, including rooftop solar systems with tax incentives, and called for stronger government preparedness in addressing preventable diseases.

Senior BNP leaders and members of the newly formed committee were present during the programme.
