Independent vice president candidate in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, Shamim Hossain, has alleged that propaganda campaigns are being carried out through tagging on several social media platforms and certain media outlets in an attempt to reduce his votes.

He made the allegation to journalists after casting his vote at the university's Senate Building centre on Tuesday.

Shamim said that he had already anticipated such actions. “Several identified media outlets and social media platforms have deliberately tagged me. This is a planned move to reduce my votes,” he claimed.

However, he expressed confidence in the voters, saying, “Students are aware and will not make a mistake in choosing their candidate.”

Commenting on the voting atmosphere, he noted, “The environment is still positive. If it remains like this, I will accept whatever the result is.”

Regarding various allegations circulating on social media, Shamim said, “My rivals are spreading this propaganda only because of my popularity. But students will give their answer through the ballot.”
