Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman resigns
Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman has resigned from his post citing personal reasons. He submitted his resignation letter to the Office of the Attorney General on Saturday night (December 27), addressed to the President.
Deputy Attorney General J R Khan Robin confirmed this to Views Bangladesh.
A farewell reception was held for him later that night.
Md Nasir Uddin, administrative officer at the Attorney General’s Office, confirmed the resignation letter was submitted around 9:30pm and mentioned personal grounds.
He said, the letter will be forwarded to the Ministry of Law on Sunday morning.
Earlier, on November 5, Asaduzzaman told a press conference that he intended to contest the 13th national election from the Jhenaidah-1 constituency. Responding to journalists at his office, he had said he would step down from the post of attorney general at the appropriate time before entering the race.
Md Asaduzzaman was appointed attorney general on August 8 last year. He is a senior Supreme Court lawyer and formerly served as the BNP’s human rights affairs secretary. The appointment was made by President Md Shahabuddin.
