August 5 July Uprising Day: Emergency announcement for all educational institutions

The Ministry of Education has directed all educational institutions across the country to hold various programmes on the occasion of 'July Mass Uprising Day-2026' on August 5. As part of observing the day with due dignity, universities, schools, colleges and other educational institutions have been asked to arrange discussion meetings as well as essay, recitation and painting competitions.

The directive was issued in a letter from the Secondary and Higher Education Division on Monday, August 3. The letter has already been sent to the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE) for taking necessary measures.

The ministry's directive said 'July Mass Uprising Day-2026' must be observed in alignment with the programmes determined by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. Authorities concerned have been requested to take necessary steps to arrange discussion meetings highlighting the historical importance and significance of the day, along with essay, recitation and painting competitions with student participation.

Earlier, the government decided to observe August 5 as 'July Mass Uprising Day' and July 16 as 'July Martyrs Day' nationally. In continuation of that decision, separate action plans are being implemented across various ministries and divisions, as well as all institutions in the education sector, to observe the two days.

It may be mentioned that separate directives have also been given to primary educational institutions, madrasas and other related educational institutions to implement similar programmes. Emphasis has been placed on conveying the context, history and significance of the July Mass Uprising to the new generation through these programmes.
