After the deaths of children waiting for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) came to light, the government has finally taken the initiative to open the long-unused children's hospital, which has remained idle for three years.
Two children have died with measles symptoms within 24 hours at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). Hospital authorities confirmed the information on Tuesday, March 31.
A memorandum has been submitted to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the Civil Surgeon of Rajshahi demanding the immediate operation of the specialised Rajshahi Children's Hospital to prevent child deaths and ensure accessible and quality healthcare. The submission also calls for effective measures to combat the highly contagious measles outbreak and the formation of an 'independent and permanent health commission'.
All incidents of killings, including those of police officers, before and after August 5, 2024, will be dealt with according to the law, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir.
