Awami League made the country a champion in corruption: President
President Md Sahabuddin said that during the rule of the Awami League government in 2001, Bangladesh reached the peak of corruption. The country was left in a 'champion in corruption' state during the transfer of power.
He said these things at the inaugural session of the 13th National Parliament on Thursday.
The President said that the BNP government led by Khaleda Zia took strict steps to curb corruption after taking office in October 2001. As a result of various initiatives, including the enactment of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act in 2004, the country regained its status in the international arena.
He also said that the main goal of the 2024 mass uprising was to end fascism and establish an accountable government through direct voting by the people. The current government has also kept curbing corruption and improving law and order as its main priorities.
