Badruddin Umar to be buried at Jurain cemetery Monday

Eminent writer, intellectual, educator, and politician Badruddin Umar will be laid to rest at Jurain Cemetery in capital's Shampur on Monday (September 8).

Faizul Hakim, general secretary of the Jatiya Mukti Council, confirmed Badruddin Umar's passing at Bangladesh Specialized Hospital in Shyamoli.

He stated that Badruddin Umar’s eldest daughter, currently abroad, is expected to return for the burial, which will take place at Jurain Cemetery in accordance with his wishes.

Badruddin Umar’s first janaza will be held at the Central Jame Masjid of Dhaka University after Zohr prayers on Monday.

Before the burial, his body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar at 10am on Monday for public tributes.

Badruddin Umar, 94, made significant contributions to Bangladesh’s society through his work in education, politics, and literature. Although he began his career as a part-time teacher at Dhaka University, he later played a pioneering role in establishing the Department of Sociology at Rajshahi University and led the founding of the Department of Political Science there.
