Bail petition of former Cantonment OC Rakibul rejected
A court has rejected the bail petition of former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Cantonment Police Station in the capital, Md Rakibul Hasan, in a sedition case filed over spreading anti-state and provocative remarks on social media.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam's court rejected the bail petition filed by the accused's lawyer Morshed Hossain Shahin on Thursday, October 1.
The lawyer confirmed the matter.
Earlier, after a total of seven days of remand in two rounds, Rakibul Hasan was ordered to be sent to jail on Wednesday. Investigating officer of the case and Police Inspector Md Jehad Hossain of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Detective Branch Gulshan zonal team applied to send him to jail after the remand ended.
On September 24, around 8:45pm, Rakibul Hasan was produced in court.
That day, a seven-day remand was sought for him, and after the hearing, the court granted a five-day remand. Later, the case was transferred to the DMP's Detective Branch (DB).
According to the First Information Report of the case, former OC of Cantonment Police Station Md Rakibul Hasan made hateful and provocative remarks against the state and government in an audio clip of a conversation with an unidentified person on Facebook. When the audio spread on social media, discussion and criticism began over it.
After the incident, he was removed from the post of OC of Cantonment Police Station and attached to the DMP headquarters. Later, with the permission of the Ministry of Home Affairs, a sedition case was filed against him at Cantonment Police Station.
