Bail petitions of 27 arrested from JSD office rejected

A court has not granted bail to 27 people arrested from the central office of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) in Gulistan in the capital. After hearing both sides, the court rejected the bail petitions and ordered them sent to jail.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nazmin Akter gave the order on Monday noon, rejecting the bail petitions of the accused's lawyers.

On Sunday night, Sub-Inspector Md Nazmul Islam of Paltan Model Police Station showed the accused arrested under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code and produced them before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in Dhaka. The court then ordered them sent to jail and fixed today for the bail hearing.

On that day, lawyers for the accused, including Nilanjana Rifat Survi, applied for bail on behalf of several accused. On the other hand, the state opposed it.

Investigating officer Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Nazmul Islam of Paltan Model Police Station arrested the accused under Section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code and brought them to court. At the same time, he applied to keep them in jail custody through the court in the interest of a proper investigation, verifying the correctness of the accused's names and addresses and unravelling the main mystery.

The application for detention stated that on Saturday afternoon, police received information that a group of people was creating an unstable situation inside JSD's central office in Paltan by chanting 'Joy Bangla' slogans.

Upon receiving the information, police detained them from the scene. In preliminary interrogation, the detainees could not give any satisfactory or valid answer regarding the incident. It is primarily believed that the accused may be involved in a cognisable offence. Therefore, it is necessary to keep them in jail custody for a proper investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
