Bail rejected for youth who tried to enter PM's security cordon

A court has rejected the bail petition of a youth named Mahibullah Mubin, who was arrested and sent to jail under the Anti-Terrorism Act on charges of attempting to enter the security cordon designated for Prime Minister Tareque Rahman at an event in Farmgate, Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order after hearing the petition.

Sub-Inspector Maruf Reza of the prosecution division confirmed the matter.

Mubin's lawyer Rabiul Alam Jewel argued for bail on his behalf. He said, "The accused is completely innocent. He had no intention of carrying out sabotage. He went out of emotion with the intention of taking a selfie with the Prime Minister. No information was found during his interrogation in remand. I am seeking bail on any conditions."

The state opposed the bail. After hearing the arguments, the court rejected the bail petition.

Prime Minister Tareque Rahman was scheduled to attend an event at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) auditorium on September 5, marking BNP's 48th founding anniversary. The Prime Minister's motorcade came to the venue from his office via Bijoy Sarani and the airport crossing.

After the Prime Minister's motorcade entered, the biker attempted to enter the left lane from the intersection. A sergeant on duty there stopped him and handed him over to police. Tejgaon police later took the youth, along with his motorcycle, into custody.

Police later filed a case against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The next day, he was produced in court with a seven-day remand request. The court sent the accused to jail and fixed September 7 for the remand hearing. Later that day, the court granted a five-day remand. After the remand, he was sent to jail on Saturday.
