Bangabandhu Foundation President Mozammel placed on 6-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed Bangabandhu Foundation’s central executive president and suspended Awami League sub-committee member on culture, Md. Mozammel Haque, 67, on a six-day remand.

Former MP from Narail-1 and expelled district committee member BM Kabirul Haque Mukti, 55, was also remanded in the same case.

The order came on Thursday (September 25) after Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sefatullah heard submissions from both prosecution and defense. Investigating officer SI Md. Abdus Salam of Gulshan Police sought a 10-day remand, while defense lawyers appealed for bail. After hearing both sides, the court rejected bail and granted remand.

According to DMP, Mozammel Haque was arrested Wednesday noon in Gulshan-1.

Police claimed he had been financially supporting leaders and activists of the banned Awami League faction, and distributing party programmes among supporters.

Case documents state that on September 12, members of the outlawed Awami League and Chhatra League brought out a procession near Dr. Fazle Rabbi Park in Gulshan. They allegedly chanted provocative slogans, attempted to vandalise vehicles, and spread panic. Police later filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
