Bangla language and literature will shine globally: PM
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has expressed optimism that Bangla language and literature will take a glorious place in the world in the near future and spread new light across the world.
He expressed this expectation in his speech as the chief guest after presenting the Ekushey Padak 2026 at a function organized at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital at 11am on Thursday (February 26).
The Prime Minister emphasized on further honing and developing knowledge, science, art and literary practice, and said that the government will provide all kinds of support for this purpose. She highlighted the historical context of the Ekushey Padak and said that the independence proclaimer, martyr President Ziaur Rahman, first introduced this medal in independent Bangladesh.
She mentioned that the Ekushey Padak is not just an honor; through it, the historical events of the country starting from the 1952 Language Movement come alive for the new generation. He commented that one of the objectives of this state recognition is to connect the common people with the eminent personalities who have contributed to education, literature, art and research.
Highlighting the significance of the month of February, the Prime Minister said that February 21 is a symbol of our identity and the lifeblood of cultural consciousness. It is a struggle to establish the dignity of the mother tongue as well as a historical movement to achieve rights. Wishing for the forgiveness of the souls of the language martyrs, he remembered their sacrifice with deep respect.
Expressing his determination to establish good governance and a liberal democratic state system, Tarique Rahman said that politicization of education, research and art and literature cannot be a feature of any civilized society. He said that the government is working to advance the country in every branch of knowledge and science and to build a liberal state with moral standards.
Calling on the people to learn from the hardworking lives of the eminent personalities, the Prime Minister called on the young generation to be more active in creative activities.
