Bangladesh has strongly condemned a reported Houthi drone attack on a power distribution facility in Saudi Arabia’s holy city of Madinah, saying any deliberate targeting of civilian infrastructure serving the Prophet’s Mosque is unacceptable.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the statement on Sunday (October 4), expressing Bangladesh’s full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in safeguarding its security and sovereignty.

Bangladesh also reaffirmed its opposition to any aggression that could undermine regional peace and stability, stressing that attacks threatening the sanctity of Islam’s holy sites cannot be tolerated.

The Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis has accused the Yemen-based group of attacking the Taibah electricity distribution station in Madinah, which supplies power to the Prophet’s Mosque.

The coalition said the September 29 attack disabled one transformer but did not affect the wider electricity network.

The coalition said an investigation and examination of debris from the drone had confirmed Houthi involvement. The Houthis, however, have denied responsibility, describing the accusation as false.

The incident has added to growing tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis amid renewed fighting in Yemen and escalating cross-border attacks.
