Bangladesh demands fair trial in US student killings: Shama Obaed
Bangladesh has demanded a fair investigation and trial into the killing of two Bangladeshi students in the United States, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has said.
Speaking at a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, April 26, she said it is imperative to conduct an impartial inquiry into such a brutal incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. She also said the government is in regular contact with the families of the deceased.
The state minister further said the government is closely monitoring the matter and will continue to provide necessary diplomatic assistance.
On April 16, two Bangladeshi PhD students, Zamil Ahmed Limon and Nahida Sultana Bristy, went missing in Florida, USA. Ten days after the incident, on April 24, Limon's body was recovered. The following day, on April 25, Bristy's brother confirmed her death through social media.
The incident has caused widespread shock and concern across the country.
