Bangladesh in the grip of intense heat wave

Most areas of the country, including the capital Dhaka, are burning in intense heat. Public life has been disrupted by the scorching heat. After this situation continues for two more days, the Meteorological Department has forecast a drop in temperature and temporary gusty winds with rain or thundershowers.

On Saturday (May 10), the highest temperature of the season was recorded in Chuadanga in the last week of Baishakh. And in the capital Dhaka, it was 40.1 degrees Celsius. Among the other districts that crossed 40 degrees, Jessore recorded 40.2 degrees, Rajshahi 40.7 degrees, Aricha in Manikganj 40 degrees, Faridpur 40 degrees and Tangail 40.1 degrees Celsius.

Severe heatwaves are sweeping across most parts of the country, except Sylhet and Sunamganj.


A mild heat wave is considered if the temperature is between 36 and 37.9 degrees Celsius, a moderate heat wave is considered if it is between 38 and 39.9 degrees Celsius, and a severe heat wave is considered if it is between 40 and 41.9 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is above 42, it is considered a very severe heat wave.

According to the weather forecast, this heat wave may continue on Sunday (May 11).

Meteorologist Shahnaz Sultana said: "There is a possibility of rain in some areas from Monday (May 12). There may be temporary gusty winds and rain or thundershowers in one or two places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. After that, the temperature will also start to decrease."
