Bangladesh and Malaysia will work closely to achieve joint prosperity, regional peace and a more inclusive international system, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said. He stated that there are opportunities to further strengthen the existing friendly relations between the two countries through enhanced mutual cooperation.

He made the remarks during a joint briefing following a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the Perdana Putra building in Putrajaya on Monday, June 22. Both leaders expressed optimism about expanding cooperation in trade, investment, labour, education and energy.

Tarique Rahman said the longstanding friendly relations between Bangladesh and Malaysia will be taken to new heights. He also invited Anwar Ibrahim to visit Bangladesh at a convenient time.

Earlier, Tarique Rahman held a one-on-one meeting with Anwar Ibrahim and signed the visitors' book. A high-level bilateral meeting followed with delegations from both countries.

The Bangladeshi delegation included Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, Expatriates' Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, State Minister for Energy and Power Anindya Islam Amit, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir, Finance Adviser Rashed Mahmud Titumir, Education Adviser Mahadi Amin and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siyam.

After the meeting, the two prime ministers held a joint press conference. Tarique Rahman, his wife Zubaida Rahman, and the delegation later attended a luncheon hosted by the Malaysian prime minister at his official residence.

Observers believe the visit will open new horizons in bilateral relations, particularly in economic and labour market cooperation.
