Bangladesh reaffirms full support for Somalia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity
Bangladesh has reiterated its full support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity at a special meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Saudi Arabia.
The position was conveyed at the 22nd Extraordinary Session of OIC foreign ministers, held in Jeddah, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Sunday (January 11).
Addressing the session, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain urged the OIC to strongly condemn and reject Israel’s recognition of the so-called “Somaliland.” He called on the organisation to adopt a firm and united stance to safeguard Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He said Bangladesh remains firmly committed to protecting the sovereignty of OIC member states and to upholding unity and solidarity across the Muslim world.
“There can be no compromise on the sovereignty of member states. Illegal arrangements are unacceptable, and justice and international law must prevail over coercion,” he said.
The extraordinary OIC session was convened to discuss the potential impact of Israel’s recognition of “Somaliland” and the risks it may pose to regional and international security.
