Bangladesh ‘role model’ in cyber security index

When the country's ICT sector is plunged into a crisis of instability and lack of confidence, just then came the global recognition.

And this good news came from the international index of cyber security of the countries of the world. Bangladesh is among the top 10 percent of cyber secure countries in the world. Bangladesh became role model in different indicators of the index.

The information was revealed in the fifth edition of the Global Cyber Security Index 2024 report published by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on Thursday. According to the report, there are 36 countries like Australia, Italy, Estonia, France, Germany, Finland, Brazil, India, Pakistan, Japan and Saudi Arabia in the level of Bangladesh.

According to the index, Bangladesh scored 95 out of 100 marks. Got full marks in three out of five categories. These include technical capabilities, organizational skills, and collaboration and coordination. Among the remaining two categories, Bangladesh scored 19.52 out of 20 in capacity development and 17.44 in legal action.

Incidentally, BGD e-gov Sert takes care of this cyber security issue of the country. Due to the efforts of the Sert team, Bangladesh has moved from the middle position to the top of the ITU GCI Report 2024 fifth edition.

At the beginning of this report, the representatives of each country have been named as focal points for the development of such positions. The names from Bangladesh is Tarek Barkat Ullah. But he is now retired. Bangladesh Computer Council Manager (IBM) Fakhar Uddin Al Helal is now in that position.
