Bangladesh has requested India to supply more fuel through the pipeline. Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud disclosed this after a meeting with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi at the Secretariat on Thursday (August 6).

The minister said diesel currently comes to Bangladesh through the existing pipeline with India, and given the demand for fuel, a request has been made to further increase the supply.

He said the meeting also discussed various issues of mutual interest between the two countries as neighbors.

Regarding the gas crisis, he said some power plants had shut down due to a shortage of gas. Now that gas supply has resumed, the plants will restart operations.

On complaints about electricity bills, the minister said that although complaints of excessive billing have come in, verification in most cases has shown normal electricity usage.

He said electricity prices have also been increased since June.
