Bangladesh seeks Russia’s support for UNGA Presidency bid
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam has sought Russia’s backing for Bangladesh’s candidacy to preside over the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
On Sunday (March 15), the Bangladeshi minister met Russian Ambassador Alexander Khozin at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka. During the courtesy call, she requested Russia’s support for Bangladesh’s UNGA presidency bid for the 2026–2027 term.
Ambassador Khozin congratulated Shama Obaed Islam on her responsibilities and expressed hope that bilateral ties between Bangladesh and Russia would strengthen further.
The minister highlighted the long-standing friendly relations, noting expanding cooperation in energy, trade, investment, science and technology, education, and skilled migration.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing progress of relations.
The meeting concluded with mutual resolve to further deepen the long-term, mutually beneficial partnership between the two countries.
