The Bangladesh government has sent 600 kilograms of premium Himsagar and Amrapali mangoes to Manik Saha and other senior officials of the Indian state of Tripura as a seasonal goodwill gift, reaffirming the longstanding tradition of exchanging fruits between the two neighbours.

The consignment, packed in 120 cartons, was transported through the Akhaura Land Port on Tuesday (June 30) before crossing into the Agartala Land Port. After customs formalities were completed, the shipment was handed over to the Assistant High Commission of Bangladesh in Agartala.

Officials at the land port said Bangladesh sends mangoes every year to the Tripura chief minister and other dignitaries as a gesture of friendship and goodwill. In return, the Tripura government traditionally presents Bangladesh's prime minister with the state's renowned Queen variety pineapples during the harvest season.

Rajib Bhuiyan, proprietor of Shoaib Trade International, the clearing and forwarding agent handling the shipment, said the customs clearance process had been completed before the mangoes were delivered to the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala for distribution among the recipients.

The annual exchange of seasonal fruits has long symbolised the warm cultural and diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and the neighbouring Indian state of Tripura, reinforcing people-to-people goodwill across the border.
