Bangladesh to expand Boeing purchases under new US deal: Sergio Gor

Bangladesh has committed to spending billions of dollars to purchase additional Boeing aircraft from the United States under a new deal reached between Dhaka and Washington, according to US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs Sergio Gor.

In a post on X late Sunday (August 30), Gor said US President Donald Trump and Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had reached an “incredible deal” under which Bangladesh agreed to invest billions of dollars in buying more Boeing aircraft, substantially increasing its initial order.

The reported agreement would significantly expand Bangladesh's previous Boeing order, though no details on the number, models or total value of the additional aircraft have been disclosed.

The US envoy did not specify whether a formal purchase agreement had been signed, nor did he reveal the aircraft types, delivery schedule or financial terms of the reported new commitment.

The announcement follows Bangladesh’s earlier agreement with Boeing to acquire 14 aircraft for national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines as part of its fleet modernisation programme. That deal, signed in April 2026, covered eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and four Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, with an estimated list value of around $3.7 billion.

Before the April agreement, Bangladesh had indicated plans to expand its Boeing procurement from 14 to 25 aircraft during trade discussions with the Trump administration in 2025. Gor’s latest statement suggests the planned purchase could now grow further, although neither the Bangladesh government nor Boeing has publicly released further details.

Gor made the remarks weeks after completing a three-day visit to Bangladesh from July 30 to August 1, during which he held meetings with senior officials on bilateral relations, trade and economic cooperation.
