Bangladesh to hold 13th national election in Feb 2026: CEC
The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), AMM Nasir Uddin, announced on Thursday that Bangladesh’s 13th national election will be held in the first half of February 2026.
Speaking to reporters at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon, the CEC said that further details of the election schedule would be released in due course.
Earlier, on 22 September, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus assured the United States that Bangladesh is fully prepared for the upcoming elections. He emphasized that the interim government is taking “comprehensive preparations” to ensure a “free, fair, and peaceful” poll.
“The election will be held in February. It will be free, fair, and peaceful. The country is fully prepared,” Yunus told US Special Envoy for South and Central Asia and US Ambassador-designate to India, Sergio Gor, during a meeting.
