Bangladeshi physician Aditi Saha dies in Chicago road crash

A young Bangladeshi physician, Aditi Saha Ananya, has died in a road accident in the United States, just weeks after beginning her medical career there.

The tragic incident occurred in Tinley Park, a suburb of Chicago, leaving her family, friends, classmates, and the medical community in deep mourning.

According to local authorities, the accident took place at around 6:30 p.m. local time on Monday near the intersection of Vollmer Road and Odyssey Boulevard in Tinley Park.

Following the crash, Dr. Aditi's vehicle left the roadway and plunged into a nearby pond. A bystander initially attempted to rescue her, and emergency responders later recovered both the vehicle and Dr. Aditi from the water.

Despite their efforts, she could not be revived. Preliminary reports indicate that she was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

Witnesses and local sources said the area was experiencing heavy rain and strong winds when the crash occurred. However, investigators have not yet confirmed whether the severe weather contributed to the accident.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said the exact cause of death is still under investigation, while the Tinley Park Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

Dr. Aditi's family home is in Sarail Upazila of Brahmanbaria District, where her father, Babul Saha, served for many years at the Sarail Upazila Health Complex. The family's ancestral home is in Chandina Upazila of Cumilla District.

She began her education at Ideal School and College in Dhaka, later completed higher secondary studies at Cambrian College, and earned her MBBS degree from Z.H. Sikder Women's Medical College in the capital. She later moved to the United States with her husband.

After successfully passing the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), Dr. Aditi began her Internal Medicine residency in July, marking the start of what promised to be a bright medical career in the United States.

News of her death has prompted an outpouring of grief on social media, with classmates, teachers, colleagues, and well-wishers remembering her as a brilliant, humble, and compassionate physician. Many said the medical profession has lost a promising doctor whose dedication and kindness will be remembered for years to come.
